Establishing Group/Roles and Scene

For our first project in the class, we will "swede" a scene from a movie. For this project, I will be working with Brianna, who will be the director while I will be the cinematographer - both roles which we want to maintain for our final project later in the school year.

We went back and forth over which scene we wanted to "swede." She had suggested a scene from Whiplash, but it was too long and contained too much dialogue - in addition to inappropriate content. I had suggested a scene from Nortbit, but despite meeting time requirements, it was too much dialogue and inappropriate content too. Neither of these scenes could be adjusted in order to meet content requirements.

Brianna then suggested that we do the dinner table scene from the 2018 movie, Instant Family. It met time and content requirements and was not dialogue-heavy either, making it an easy choice. Additionally, what spoke to me about the scene was the repetitive and simple nature of the shots, thus making my life as a cinematographer much easier. Despite there being 77 individual shots, most are from only a handful of angles. Additionally, the scene itself is supposed to be chaotic which will allow our actors to exercise their artistic liberty.

Below is the scene we picked from Instant Family:
